Today we took an end of the semester test. The test covered the subjects the students have learned this semester.

  • Measurement
  • Fact families
  • Greater than or less than
  • Money
  • Fractions
  • Adding fractions
  • Graphing 
  • Math facts 
  • Patterns
I will grade the test and give it back to students on Thursday. I hope this assessment gives you a glimpse of what you student knows.

Next Thursday will be our last class together and we will be having a party. Each student needs to create a math game for two players and bring it to class. Students are also welcome to bring a snack of some sort to share.

What we did in class today: 

  • Number of the day
    • Hundred thousand place value
  • Measurement worksheet
    • Measure in both inches and centimeters things such a shoe, scissors, pencil etc. 
  • Timed tests (Math facts) or other activity of choice
Homework: Worksheet: Decide would you use inches, feet, or yards to measure certain things. Some students finished early and completed their homework in class.

What we did in class this week:

  • Number of the day
    • Ten thousand place value
  • Life of Fred
    • We finished the book CATS (The third book in the series)
    • Natural numbers
    • Prime numbers
    • Introduced algebra: solve for x, solve for y
    • Century=100 years
  • Began measurement unit
    • Standard vs. Non standard units of measurements
    • We went outside and measured lines using our feet. Everyone had a different answer. We see the need for a standard measurement unit. 
    • Inches, Feet, Yards
    • Each student got their own "Measurement book" We will be working on this the next several class periods. Today we completed page 1 and 2. 
    • Scavenger hunt around GMA looking for things that were 2,4,6,8,9, and 12 inches long. Students were in teams and had rulers. They seemed to enjoy it. 
Homework: If your student did not finish the scavenger hunt at school they need to finish it at home.
