Week 2
A lot changed this week. Due to another teacher needing to leave GMA for health reasons I have taken over her 2nd and 3rd grade math class. I have two classes Kinder/1st and 2nd/3rd Grade. I had a TA test the children on Tuesday. With those results I have grouped the students into four "grades": Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade. I will post about each group on this blog.
Kindergarten----------------------------------
In class: Number of the day, review commutative property, count by 1's , 5's and 10's, number book 11-20.

Kindergarten----------------------------------------------
Number of the Day: 5 (write the #, draw 5 pictures, write the # that comes before, write the # that comes after)
Introduce math symbols: +, -, =
Introduce "equation"
Solve simple equations (Spent time on adding zero to a number- number stays the same!)
Complete math worksheet: Roll it, Write it, Tally it, Show it. (if they finished early they created patterns with blocks)
Homework: Fill in the missing numbers.
First Grade--------------------------------------------------
Number of the Day: 8 (write the #, draw 8 pictures, write the # that comes before, write the # that comes after)
Talk about math symbols and equations (+,-,=)
Write and then share our own equations with the class
Introduce the Commutative property of addition and practice it kinetically
Complete math worksheet: Find the sum: addition with pictures

It's a new school year!
Welcome to our class blog GMA families. This year I will be blogging about our Kindergarten and First grade Little Red School House classes.
Each child was given an orange folder for MATH. Please have your child bring this to class each day.
Each child will be given homework each class period. Please complete the homework with your student and have them return it. Please also indicate if the homework was too hard or too easy when you return it. Tickets will be rewarded to students who bring homework back and at the end of the semester we will have a class store where they can use their tickets to buy fabulous dollar store finds. ;) The envelop on the back of the orange folder is a safe place to store the tickets.
