We been having so much fun in class lately. The kids have all been on their best behavior and we are learning learning learning!

What we did in class today:

  • Number of the day 
  • Life of Fred 
    • patterns
    • ordinal numbers
    • cardinal numbers
    • simple addition and subtraction
    • time
  • Money
    • counting by 5, 10 and 25
    • word problems: If Sally has $3 and wants to buy 2 candy bars that cost $1 each does she have enough? 
    • Store (Students come to me and pick grocery store items they would like to "buy". They then count the money in coins that they need.)
  • Timed Tests
  • Practice worksheets
    • I have a variety of worksheets (all laminated) that the students choose from and complete with a dry erase markers. The worksheets include math facts, money, time, fact families etc. 
Homework: Money game. Ice Cream Scoop. Directions are on the back of the worksheet.

    • Reviewed the value of each coin
    • Learned who is on each coin 
    • Completed a worksheet adding coins (this was a difficult worksheet and not all students finished)
Homework: Place Value color by value valentines worksheet

My baby was sick on Tuesday and so another mom took over class for me. I was able to be in class today and we had a really great time. I love teaching your kids math.

What we did this week:

  • Read Chapters 3 and 4 in Life of Fred
    • Patterns
    • Numerals
  • Played in math centers 
  • Started "Number of the day"
  • Took timed tests
  • Reviewed greater than/less than, fact families, odd and even
  • Learned what the = sign really means
  • Played a great math double fact game as a class
Homework: Little math book (everything should be a review)

New Semester

Welcome to winter semester. We have three new students joining us for Little Red School House this semester. Because of the new students and the extra long Christmas break we will be reviewing everything we covered in fall semester. REVIEWING is the key word. We will move quickly so we can cover new material. Here are the topics we will be reviewing:

  • Time, Place Value, Fact Families, Greater than and Less than, Graphing, Double facts up to ten, Even and Odd
As parents please also review these topics at home (especially if you are new to our class).

Some of the new material we will be covering in the next few weeks includes:

  • Money, Fractions, Double digit addition
What we did in class:
  • Introduced Fred
  • Read Chapter One in Life of Fred
    • Commutative Property
    • Astronomy and Constellations
    • Cardinal vs. Ordinal Numbers
  • Took a Pre-test (I wanted to see what level each student was on) 
  • Went over class management rules, prize bucket and homework.

I have asked each student to bring a math game to class on Thursday. This game can be a real math game or one they made up. We will spend Thursday having a class party and playing each others games. Some of the students asked if they could bring treats. I said they are welcome to bring a healthy treat but they are not required to. :)

What we did in class today:

  • Collected data and filled out graphs according to the data
  • Completed a worksheet (Learning how to read a graph)
  • Completed addition facts and color by number pages
